Post party wrap up. My Welcome Back party last night went well. And thanks to Facebook I saw a few people I haven't seen in more than a decade. There was a bit of drama towards the end of the night, and the weather was most unco-operative, but overall it was lots of fun. Today a bunch of us went down to College and Bathurst for a nice buffet lunch. |

On a serious note... I have an interview at 9:00AM on Wednesday with a local company that does electronic security and the like. I -really- want this job, as it would mean I could stay right where I am and not have to relocate. Prayers would be very welcome. Current Mood: hopeful |

Another Hit to My 15 Minutes of Fame A few months back a friend asked me if I would help with the 10th Annual Taste of Kingston. The event show cases many of Kingston’s restaurants and raises money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kingston and the Canadian Diabetes Association. I have always liked helping kids and since Diabetes runs in my family, I was glad to help. CFB Kingston was providing the tents and some labor for the event. My friend did all the paper work; I just had to provide the muscle. I coordinated the military volunteers and supervised the work party that set things up in the park. While I was working, I was introduced to a volunteer who was making a DVD of the event. She later asked me to say a few words on behalf of CFB Kingston. As sweaty and dirty as I was, I really was the only person available. After everything was in place, I finally had a change to look at this year’s program. CFB Kingston was given a ¾ page Special Thank-You, on the page before the Thank You to volunteers. I was surprised to see my name listed first on the volunteer page. And tomorrow we eat. Home, Sweet Home Arrived safely at home yesterday morning after an eleven-day visit with wolfpaws and halex in Kansas City, Missouri. The bus ride was uneventful but far too long for me to consider doing all at once again. Next time I think I'll break it up into two parts with an overnight stay in Chicago. That'll hopefully give me a chance to get some sleep on my way to KC, and I've always wanted to visit Chicago anyway. It's a damn shame that I've now been through that city six times while en route to other places, and yet I've never stopped to explore it. By the way, Adam and Pete, look on top of your mantelpiece. I think I left you an unintentional little present there well before I left for home. If nothing else, I suppose that Pete could use it when he's over here in Ontario for Feral!. Just a friendly request that if you're registered but not paid yet please contact me and confirm your attendance :) there will be emails going out this week, but you can help me cut back on sendin em if you either a) confirm attendance or, obviously, b) pay registration :)
As a side note, we are currently one request short of a full bus. To ensure your spot, please confirm asap since when we run out of spots...well, we gotta put you somewhere else, and you'll miss one of the coolest parts of the Feral experience :)
Special Guests this year are decided :) Patches, an amazing artist who has helped Feral in previous years as the co chair is taking the year off and we're showcasing her talents as our main Special Guest! Joining her this year will be last year's Guest of Honours Ferris and Max Blackrabbit!
As well, we are proud to announce that our conbook cover art will be courtesy of Ferris, and the art Tshirt will be designed by Patches and featuring our three mascots! Finally, the Feral Hoodie will return this year and information on the art will be on the site shortly!

First report on 2.0 I picked up the firmware tonight for my existing iPhone before the 3G release tomorrow. It installed very easily, no muss, no fuss. I'm mostly interested in it for the enterprise features.
The short/sweet version: Exchange works amazingly well. Push-email and corporate calendar? Yes please. The push feature is just as fast (if not faster) than I'm used to on the WinMo units.
More importantly to me, the Cisco VPN client is a full implementation of their client package. Duuuuude. It works perfectly with the full-on certificate-needing / SecureID / all-feeps-turned-on system that I use at the office (on a Cisco ASA5520). I can now use the iPhone to get to internal resources.
Mixed with the 2.0 jailbreak this means I'll finally have an anywhere, anytime fix-it kit. SSH and VNC to my internal servers, there in my pocket, protected by two-factor authentication should the phone ever get stolen.
Yes, the apps-store and the apps you can get for free are cool too. Much grooving on the simple Remote app, especially. But I'll do more with those later when the push-servers turn on fulltime and they work like they're supposed to... starting tomorrow. Until then the whole 'mobile me' thing is wibby and tools like the AIM client don't quite work as expected.
Any questions I can answer as long as I have it up and running? |

Flight home is booked Yesterday I booked my flight back to Canada. I'll be flying in on Tuesday, July 19th at 17:05.
In other news, we had *proper* English weather yesterday, by which I mean gray and rainy. I went to the Tower of London. I saw some cool stuff, but of course the big thing is the Crown Jewels. The security systems look massive, but not excessively high tech, I'll need to give more thought on how to bypass it. I suspect that sleeping gas followed by a quick smash and grab might work, with a few steel wedges and posts strategically positioned to keep the automatic doors from closing. Anyway, enough about steeling some of Britain's national treasures. Yesterday night Naz, Andy, and I went to a comedy club in Brixton. The first comic was a Canadian and since I was sitting in the front row with a bog red Roots hoody on I got singled out for special treatment. It was (mostly) fun, and I wish I had it on tape. |
